Romania became the ninth country to start bilateral security negotiations with Ukraine.
Ukraine has started negotiations with Romania on an agreement on security guarantees for our country. The press service of the head of state reported this on Sunday, January 14.
On the sidelines of the fourth meeting of national security advisers and political advisers with heads of state on the implementation of the Peace Formula in Davos, Switzerland, the Ukrainian side, with the participation of the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Ermak, began of bilateral negotiations with the Secretary of State of the Romanian Foreign Ministry Iulian Laranu on the conclusion of a bilateral security agreement.
Negotiations began on behalf of President Vladimir Zelensky as part of the G7 joint declaration in support of Ukraine.
“This is a logical extension of the agreements based on the results of the telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and Romania on January 9, 2024 and a step towards the implementation of the joint declaration of the heads of both states dated October 10, 2023,” the statement said.
Romania became the 9th country to start bilateral security negotiations with Ukraine and reaffirmed its unwavering support for the independence and territorial integrity of our state, as well as its European and Euro-Atlantic path.
The parties discussed the main elements of the future bilateral security agreement and agreed on the means for further negotiations.
Let’s recall that in July 2023, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries approved a declaration providing long-term support for Ukraine in the field of security and economy. Any country that, at the bilateral level, officially agrees to provide certain guarantees to Ukraine can join the G7 declaration.
On January 12, Ukraine and Great Britain signed a security agreement. According to Zelensky, Kyiv and London have reached the highest and most significant level of relations of all time.
