In the past year, the Language Ombudsman carried out 125 state controls on the use of the state language.
In 2023, the State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremen imposed 21 fines for violating the language law. This was stated in the response of the Secretariat of the Language Ombudsman to the request of Ukrinform.
“In 2023, for violating the Law of Ukraine Ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language administrative sanctions are applied in the form of a fine – 21, in the form of a warning – 61,” said the response.
In total, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language carried out 125 state controls on the use of the state language and for violations of the requirements of the language law in 2023. In particular, a warning was announced and a requirement to eliminate violations within 30 days from the date of taking action on 33 business entities.
In the past it was reported that the majority of requests regarding language law violations in higher education institutions were recorded in the Odessa region.
Meanwhile, not a single Russian-language song remains on the airwaves of national radio stations. However, there are frequent cases of non-state language use in radio broadcasts.
