Paul today, January 12, the press services of the SBU and the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor’s office report.
According to the investigation:
- On September 30, 2022, he arrived in the Kremlin to participate in the ceremony of the so-called “annexation” of the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine into Russia;
- who was present at this event as a hierarch of the UOC-MP in church clothes, by his presence he actually supported the illegal annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine into the Russian Federation and encouraged, by his example, the believers of the diocese to also support the illegal decisions and actions of the aggressor state;
- in May of the same year, Povoroznyuk attended a round table meeting held in Lugansk under the leadership of Gauleiter Pasechnik. Then, in front of the cameras of Russian television channels, Povoroznyuk, together with Kadyrov’s adviser, advocated the adoption of the so-called resolution, which spread fakes about Ukrainian soldiers and the situation at the front;
- During numerous interviews with Kremlin propagandists, he glorified the Russian occupiers and called for a continuation of the war against Ukraine.
Based on the collected evidence, Security Service investigators informed Povoroznyuk of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 111-2 of the Criminal Code (aiding the aggressor state). Earlier, on the recommendation of the SBU, the National Security and Defense Council applied sanctions against him.
Since the cleric is hiding from justice in the temporarily occupied territory of the Luhansk region, comprehensive measures are ongoing to bring him to justice, the SBU notes.
