Kyiv continues to receive aid from the United States for initial purchases. Continuous delivery and no drop. However, the priority is getting Congress to agree to a $61 billion package.
Ukraine continues to receive US military aid, despite the fact that the Pentagon is running out of money. This is what the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova said, Voice of America reports.
Markarova explained that of the three programs in which the United States cooperates with Ukraine, USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) and FMF (Foreign Military Financing), two are procurement, and the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) – The President’s powers to allocate ed .) is the allocation of finished weapons from warehouses.
“In the budget, in addition to the allocation program, which only authorizes the President and the Department of Defense of the United States to allocate (finished weapons – ed.), there is also an amount allocated for the restoration (replenishment of the US’s own reserve, after giving aid to Ukraine – ed.). Now we are in a situation where we still have additional powers, but no more funds for replenishment,” Markarova explained.
According to the ambassador, the main priority for the Ukrainian embassy is the approval by Congress of a package of $61 billion. Because the Pentagon, according to him, is doing everything possible.
At the same time, even without new allocations, Kyiv continues to receive aid from the United States for initial purchases.
“A lot of allocations were made over the summer, especially the purchases under the USAI program – remember those big packages of $3 billion, $2 billion each? – these are all purchases. Therefore, the deliveries continue . And if we do not see new allocations, deliveries in fact, they are going, there is no reduction. Does this mean that we have enough weapons? – no,” explained the ambassador, already mentioning the new bills and powers is urgently needed to provide from our own stocks as well as new purchases.
We remind you that earlier the White House said that there was no money for new military support for Ukraine before the US Congress approved it.
In addition, on December 27, the United States announced the provision of the last package of military aid to Ukraine in 2023, worth $250 million.
