The presidents of Ukraine and Latvia discussed the transfer of Russian assets to Kyiv and military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Latvia plans to take ownership of the House of Moscow in Riga, and the funds will be transferred to Ukraine. The corresponding law is adopted by the country’s Seimas. Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics announced this on Thursday, January 11, at a press conference in Riga after a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
“We plan to use other Russian assets to provide assistance to Ukraine,” Rinkevichs added.
Speaking of military aid, he mentioned the ability to manufacture drones.
“We can make cheaper drones that are very effective, which the Ukrainian military needs,” Rinkevics said. Perhaps we will also buy 155-mm caliber ammunition to supply it to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is what the president and I discussed today,” he said.
Rinkevichs said that the Seimas also voted to provide more than 500 million euros for three years, and this program will be focused on the Chernihiv region.
In addition, Rinkevichs also recalled the “international tribunal for responsibility for war crimes, as well as the kidnapping of Ukrainian children who need to be returned.”
“And, of course, our support is absolutely clear and precise about Ukraine’s accession to NATO,” he said, adding that these are the only security guarantees.
We remind you that on Thursday Zelensky arrived on a visit to Latvia, where he met with President Edgars Rinkevics. And in the morning of that day he visited Estonia, where he met with President Alar Karis.
