The President clarified that the state can be defended not only at the front, but also in the rear – we are talking about work and paying taxes.
But if you are abroad, you are of mobilization age and you are not at the front, you do not pay taxes, you traveled outside the law, then there are questions. That’s all,” Zelensky said on January 11 in Tallinn after a meeting with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.
According to Zelensky, there are no claims against citizens who traveled abroad at the beginning of the war to save their lives and are not subject to mobilization, otherwise the situation is with those who are of conscription age but left the country illegally during martial law.
This is a question for these men. If they are of mobilization age, they should help Ukraine and be in Ukraine. Now I’m not talking about who should be at the front and who shouldn’t. There is a law. But the usual human rule: six to eight taxpayers spend on one military man. And if you are in Ukraine and not at the front, but work and pay taxes, then you are also protecting the state, and this is very necessary,” he emphasized.
The President noted that paying taxes is important, because otherwise there will be no money to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
And if there is no money, there will be no military man, there will be no one to defend Ukraine. These are the rules of life,” he said.
Zelensky did not give a direct answer to the question of local journalists whether Estonia needs to extradite Ukrainian men of military age.
Earlier, the BBC-Ukraine resource wrote that since the beginning of a full-scale war, almost 20 thousand Ukrainian men have gone abroad.
According to Zelensky, Russia has a shortage of weapons, so it cannot be given a pause in hostilities – it will only benefit Russia.
