These fish use long fins to support themselves on the ocean floor.
Underwater photographer Fridy Yolotsin captured an amazing photo of a baby tripodfish on camera while diving in a “dark water patch” off the coast of Cozumel, Mexico. He posted the footage on Instagram.
The creature looks like it doesn’t belong on this planet.
Representatives of this species are among the deepest sea fish on Earth.
They live at depths of 1 to 6 kilometers and their name comes from the long rays of their pelvic and caudal swimmers, which can reach an incredible three meters in length. Normally, fish use these long fins to support themselves on the ocean floor.
