American sociologists from the University of Chicago surveyed 1,046 adult Russians living in Russia and temporarily Russian-occupied Crimea, using data from Russian mobile operators.
The public opinion survey found that Putin maintains strong domestic support for his regime, despite poor economic conditions and living standards in Russia – 67% of participants approve of the way Putin is conducting foreign policy, 58% approve of his domestic policies. 66% plan to vote for him in the upcoming presidential election in March.
Sociologists also noted that 64% of respondents view the war as a “civilizational struggle between Russia and the West.”
