Fighting Hamas terrorists who harbor civilians and “burn schools and hospitals” makes the fight “incredibly difficult” for Israel.
The United States will continue to support Israel to ensure that the events of October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a massive attack on the country and took hostages, do not happen again. United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced this on Tuesday, January 9, during a visit to Tel Aviv, reports The Times of Israel.
Speaking at a press conference, the politician recalled the hostages held by the terrorist organization Hamas, where “every minute of separation from loved ones seems like an eternity.” He also spoke about the hundreds of thousands of civilians in the Gaza Strip who are facing “chronic food shortages” and have also lost relatives.
He said regional leaders were concerned about the “dire humanitarian situation and the number of civilians killed in the Gaza Strip.” At the same time, the US Secretary of State rejected Israel’s accusation of “genocide” at the International Court.
“Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and their backer Iran continue to openly call for the destruction of Israel and the mass killing of Jews,” Blinken said.
He admitted that fighting Hamas terrorists who are harboring civilians and “burning down schools and hospitals” makes the fight “incredibly difficult” for Israel.
At the same time, he called on Jerusalem to do everything possible to allow humanitarian aid to be delivered “safely and securely” to the Gaza Strip.
“Palestinian citizens must return home as soon as the situation allows,” Blinken said.
The Israeli military has completed the elimination of the Hamas military structure in the northern Gaza Strip.
