Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin was treated for prostate cancer. The second time he was hospitalized due to complications.
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin was diagnosed with prostate cancer; due to post-operative complications, he was immediately hospitalized at the beginning of the year. This was announced by the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, NPR reports.
The hospital noted that a physical examination in early December 2023 discovered that Austin had early-stage prostate cancer. The operation took place under general anesthesia on December 22, and the next day the head of the Pentagon was discharged from the hospital.
But on January 1, Austin was hospitalized again with severe stomach pains that resulted in complications from surgery. Initial testing revealed a urinary tract infection.
“On January 2, the decision was made to move him (to Austin, – edit.) in the intensive care unit for close monitoring and a higher level of care. Further examination revealed an accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, which interfered with the functioning of the small intestine,” the hospital added.
At this time, post-surgery complications have been resolved and Austin continues to recover.
We remind you that Austin was hospitalized on Monday. But the US Department of Defense announced this only on Friday, noting that he will return to work. The head of the Pentagon took responsibility for problems related to the transparency of reports about his health condition.
