The former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the ex-head of one of the Departments of the Ministry of Defense and the former head of the clothing support department of the Central Directorate for Development and Support of Material Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were suspected of embezzlement of almost 950 million UAH. public funds for the purchase of body armor for the army. The State Bureau of Investigation reported this on January 8 on Telegram.
Law enforcement officers established that in 2022, an agreement was concluded between the Ministry of Defense and an Eastern European company for the supply of a large batch of body armor. However, experts determined that these body armor could not be used by the military because they did not meet the standards.
As a result of the purchase of low-quality products, the state’s losses amounted to almost UAH 950 million.
Three defendants were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28, part 2 art. 114-1 (obstruction of the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, committed under the conditions of a special period, which led to grave consequences committed by a group of persons), Part 5 of Art. 191 (consumption of someone else’s property by an official abusing his official position on an especially large scale, under martial law and by prior conspiracy by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The perpetrators face up to 15 years in prison.
Let us recall that the platoon commander of one of the military air defense units of the Odessa region was informed of suspicion of negligence in military service, because during the war the attacker sold more than 20 tons of 30 tons of strategic fuel.
