According to the Israeli military, the number of confirmed abductees on October 7 by terrorists is at least 245.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant met in Tel Aviv with the families of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and pledged that the IDF would do everything possible to free the people. The Times of Israel reported this on Sunday, January 7.
“The fighting in Gaza will not stop until the hostages come home,” he said.
As the publication recalls, according to the existing agreement, groups based in Gaza must release Israeli children and women, except for those serving in the Israel Defense Forces. In particular, nine children remain hostages in Gaza, the youngest of whom is 10 months old, the Israeli publication writes.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has reportedly said that the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip could “metastasize” and threaten security across the Middle East.
“This is a moment of deep tension in the region. It is a conflict that can easily metastasize, bringing more danger and more suffering,” Blinken said during his visit to Qatar.
Hamas-controlled health authorities said 22,835 people had been killed in fighting in the Gaza Strip, although these figures could not be independently verified. The figure does not distinguish between civilians and combatants and includes Palestinians killed by random rocket fire from Gaza. Israel claims to have killed 8,500 terrorists since the war began.
The Israeli military has completed the elimination of the Hamas military structure in the northern Gaza Strip.
