Retailers blamed the weather, but Russian officials said the holidays were to blame.
In Russia, against the backdrop of sanctions, the economic system continues to fall, in particular, there is a seasonal shortage of chicken in stores. Russian retailers and officials make excuses such as “weather influence” to explain why chicken meat has disappeared. This was stated in a comment by X5 Group to the Russian pro-government news agency RBC.
Residents of a number of Russian regions – Yekaterinburg, Samara, Chelyabinsk and Ulyanovsk – are facing a shortage of the most affordable meat. Russia’s largest retail chain X5, which owns the Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Chizhik store chains, blamed the bad weather.
The press service of the government of the Sverdlovsk region believes that the lack of chicken meat is not to blame for the weather, but for the sudden holidays, due to which the demand for chicken allegedly fell , so they stopped serving it in stores.
Manufacturers of poultry products in the Sverdlovsk region continue to work. Deliveries, including large retail chains, are carried out according to schedule, and their volume is adjusted taking into account consumer activity. During the January long weekend it is traditionally lower than other days. “Fast-moving products are delivered to stores in such quantities that they are consumed during their shelf life,” Russian officials assured.
We remind you that the prices of chicken eggs continue to rise in Russia, which is why the authorities intend to buy them from Turkey. However, they are more expensive there.
