French President Emmanuel Macron believes there needs to be a working channel of communication with Russia just in case.
French President Emmanuel Macron explained why he often calls Putin. He assured that he received approval from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for all interactions with the head of the Russian Federation. RBC-Ukraine reported this with reference to Macron’s statement at a press conference in Kyiv.
“We need to have a channel of communication with Russia on some issues, at least food security issues,” Macron said.
According to the president of France, at the moment these negotiations do not bring any concrete result, but perhaps the moment for the success of these negotiations may come in the future.
“Ultimately, this discussion has to take place,” Macron said.
According to him, Zelensky has agreed to negotiations between the leaders of France and Russia every hour since 2019.
“Ukraine must win the war, maintaining the integrity and sovereignty of its territory, but then it still needs to talk to the Russians,” Macron added.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron promised that he would not force Ukraine into peace talks with Russia. They said that the Ukrainian authorities should personally determine the conditions for a dialogue with the Kremlin.
