Berlingske writes that the first batch was supposed to be delivered on New Year’s Day, but the new schedule of the Ministry of Defense stipulates that Ukraine will most likely receive the first aircraft in the second quarter of 2024.
A representative of the country’s Ministry of Defense said that “some conditions for the combat use of the F-16 have not yet been met.” We are talking about the training of mechanics, pilots, airfields and logistics. Previously, it was hoped that Ukraine would receive 19 aircraft at the beginning of this year.
Among the factors influencing the delays is the training schedule of Ukrainian pilots, the schedule of which depends on equipment and weather.
As a representative of the Danish Ministry of Defense told Berlingske, six fighters will be handed over to Kyiv no earlier than the second quarter of 2024.
Back in the summer of 2023, Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen announced plans to transfer 19 fighters to Ukraine, and expressed hope that the first batch of six F-16s would arrive at the beginning of 2024.
Currently, six Ukrainian pilots are training in Denmark. However, the schedule for their training depends on various factors, in particular, supplies and weather conditions. In addition, it is necessary to train mechanics and other ground personnel, establish logistics for the supply of ammunition and spare parts, and prepare airfields.
