Next Monday, January 8, a ceremony will take place in Berlin to launch a new political party: “The Sarah Wagenknecht Union – For Intelligence and Justice,” writes Bild.
It consists mostly of former Left Party politicians. But recently the former mayor of Düsseldorf, Thomas Geisel, announced his transition to a new party. Previously, he was a member of the SPD, which heads the ruling coalition in Germany, for 40 years.
Geisel sadly became famous for trying to downplay and question the significance of the massacre in the town of Bucha near Kiev in April 2022.
He is expected to head the lists of the new Wagenknecht party in the European Parliament elections in June, along with former Bundestag member Fabio de Masi.
In April 2022, Geisel published a text on his blog about the war in Ukraine, which caused a wave of criticism against him. The post talked about war crimes in Bucha:
According to Ukrainian data, 410 civilians became victims of atrocities in Bucha. Of course, every civilian casualty in war is a tragedy. But doesn’t Ukrainian genocide rhetoric ultimately negate other war crimes? As an example, I can name Srebrenica, Mai Lai, Babi Yar or the bombing of Dresden, which killed 30,000 people.
The politician published his post under the heading “Enough, Mr. Melnyk,” referring to the then Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andrey Melnyk.
