On January 4, President Vladimir Zelensky and the head of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, discussed further steps in defense cooperation. The head of state announced this on Facebook.
“I welcome the start of the Italian presidency of the Group of Seven. We appreciate the inclusion of the issues of Ukraine’s defense and restoration capabilities in the priorities for 2024. This is a strong signal that shows Ukraine’s continued support in the fight against the aggressor, ”Zelensky said.
He informed Meloni about the massive Russian missile attacks and shelling of front-line and border towns and communities.
“We discussed the situation on the front line. I personally thank Italy and Giorgi for their willingness to continue to help strengthen our air defense. This is very important for saving lives and ensuring the possibility of a normal exist for the cities and villages of our country,” said the president.
The parties also discussed further steps in defense cooperation. In particular, they touched on the issues of defense products.

We also discussed with Giorgia the issues of financial and political support for Ukraine by the European Union. We are with Italy here, and it gives confidence not only to Ukraine, but also to all those who work hard for our Europe to withstand the attacks of Russia,” emphasized the president.
Let’s remember that Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said it’s time to start looking for a political solution to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Earlier, he said that Italy continues to support Ukraine against the backdrop of Russian aggression, but Italian military assistance “cannot be unlimited.”
