Another group of Ukrainian soldiers is expected to return home in the coming weeks.
Another prisoner exchange could take place in the coming weeks. Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets said this on Wednesday, January 3, during a telethon.
“I hope that this year this exchange process will show consistency. I hope that in the coming weeks we will once again be able to cheer our heroes back home,” said Lubinets.
He added that the Russians are “negotiating insidiously” and no one knows when they will disrupt the process again.
“But what depends on Ukraine, we are doing everything possible,” said the ombudsman.
According to him, the current exchange, which resulted in the return of 230 Ukrainian people, preceded a long and complicated process.
“It is complicated by the fact that the Russian Federation, in my opinion, has taken the position of not exchanging prisoners, blocking the process of returning civilian captives to try as much as possible to weaken the situation in Ukraine from the inside,” Lubinets said.
According to him, Ukraine tried to attract new partners to unblock the process of returning prisoners of war.
“Today we succeeded. The UAE is involved. I am in constant contact with Moskalkova (Russian Ombudsman – ed.). She also influenced the return of our heroes,” said Lubinets.
He also noted that in the past two weeks, three positive moments have occurred in the negotiations with the Russian Federation: a mutual visit of prisoners of war, an exchange of warm things, and now, finally, the third moment – the return of our people.
At the same time, Lubinets emphasized that the task is to completely restore everything.
We remind you that on January 3, Ukraine returned 230 military and civilians from captivity in Russia. These are soldiers, sergeants and officers. Among them are a combat medic, defenders from Snake Island, from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was captured in the first days of the war, from Azovstal, border guards, police, national guard, and armed forces. According to the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, the United Arab Emirates helped organize the exchange.
