This marks the shortest tenure in the institution’s history.
Harvard University President Claudine Gay has resigned. The reason was an accusation of plagiarism. CNN reported it.
“It is with a heavy heart, but with deep love for Harvard, that I am writing to announce that I am resigning as president. My resignation is in the best interest of Harvard so that our community can navigate the moment this extraordinary challenge by focusing on the institution rather than the individual,” Gay wrote in a letter to the Harvard community.
He said he will return to teaching “and to research and teaching, which is the lifeblood of what we do.”
Gay became Harvard’s first black chancellor in July 2023, having previously studied American political behavior and served in other administrative roles.
We remind you that plagiarism was discovered in Gay’s doctoral dissertation in 1997: materials from other sources were used there without proper attribution.
