Russian general Igor Trifonov died in the war in Ukraine. He previously headed the Yekaterinburg police. This was reported by the Russian publication Kommersant on Wednesday, January 3.
“The former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Yekaterinburg, Igor Trifonov, who was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison on a case of bribery and illegal possession of weapons in 2022, died in the war in Ukraine,” the media said the report.
The lawyer of the convicted person, Olga Kezik, said that her client was looking for a long time to conclude a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. After that, he still managed to go to the front – this happened at the end of 2023. He also added that Trifonov wanted to “win.”
According to him, he has not yet received official documents confirming the dismissal of Trifonov.
