The local Center for Combating Disinformation said it would not release the minesweepers until the end of the war in Ukraine.
The Turkish government has decided not to allow mine-hunting ships donated by Britain to Ukraine through its straits. This was reported by the Director of the Communication Center for Combating Disinformation of the Republic of Turkey.
“The statement by some media that mine-hunting ships donated to Ukraine by Great Britain were allowed to pass through the Turkish Straits to the Black Sea,” the statement said.
Turkey immediately classified Russia’s “special military operation” against Ukraine as a “war” and, in accordance with Article 19 of the Montreux Straits Convention, closed the straits to the warships of the warring parties (Russia and Ukraine). .
Official Ankara has decided that it will not allow the minesweepers to pass until the end of the war in Ukraine.
“Turkey, with an open mind and strict adherence to the Montreux Convention since 1936, has maintained its unwavering determination and principled position throughout this war to prevent the escalation of tensions in the Black Sea,” the Center insisted.
The Turkish side added that the allies of these states should be informed that the mine-hunting ships provided to Ukraine by the United Kingdom cannot pass through the Turkish Straits to the Black Sea while the war continues.
