Petro Poroshenko, the fifth president of Ukraine, announced his intention to leave the Roman Shukhevych Museum in the Lviv region, which was destroyed by the Nazis during a night attack.

Poroshenko announced this today, January 1, on his Facebook page.
Marina Poroshenko and I decided to restore the Shukhevych Museum, which was destroyed today, in order to preserve it for posterity. Our Poroshenko Foundation will finance all the necessary work,” Poroshenko noted.
Poroshenko emphasized that Shukhevych was an extraordinary person – he created the first Ukrainian business in Galicia and financed the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, which was huge for that time.
During the existence of the UPA, they managed to create an entire state underground. With your government, with your money. During the existence of the UPA alone, about 400,000 Ukrainians passed through it. Shukhevych even then said that we must fight uncompromisingly. No one will give us freedom,” Poroshenko noted.
He emphasized that today’s Russian attack on the museum shows that the enemies of Ukraine are still afraid of Shukhevych.
This is the story of the great Commander-in-Chief. Who was able to build a state within the empire. Who was able to create the Ukrainian army from scratch. Who believed boundlessly in Ukraine… We, Ukrainians, remember. The museum will live,” Poroshenko concluded.
The Facebook page of the Lviv Historical Museum reports that most of the exhibits of the Roman Shukhevych Museum were not damaged, since they were evacuated in advance.
Memorial items of Roman Shukhevych were lost: a table, armchairs, a chapel, a piano, as well as a bust of Roman Shukhevych by Mikhail Chereshnevsky and a sculpture of Stepan Bandera by Yaroslav Trotsky. The remaining approximately 600 pieces of exhibits have been moved to another location since the beginning of the full-scale war. They are now safe, the message says.
It is noted that the established amount of damage is UAH 2 million 258 thousand – this is only the cost of the building. Damage due to lost property is still being calculated.
