Thanks to the work of mine action operators, 18 thousand square kilometers of the liberated territories of Ukraine were recognized as non-threatening from the point of view of mine safety. This area is 10% of the initial pollution assessment. This was discussed at the last meeting of the National Mine Action Authority (NMAA), the Ministry of Defense reports.
According to the head of the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety of the Ministry of Defense, head of the NMAA secretariat, Colonel Ruslan Bereguli, the area of potentially contaminated areas has now been reduced to 156 thousand square kilometers. .
Initially, the area of liberated territories possibly contaminated with explosive objects in Ukraine was estimated at 174 thousand square meters. km.
This year, the survey covers 115 territorial communities with a total area of more than 50 thousand square meters. km. This year, the services’ demining units have checked and cleared 1,300 square meters of explosives. km of liberated territories. At the same time, 1,883 sites contaminated with explosive objects were identified.
Also in 2023, the following will be removed: 4,512 kilometers of roads, 1,064 kilometers of power lines, 2,464 kilometers of railways.
In total, in the territories in question, experts seized and neutralized about 275 thousand explosive objects, in particular artillery and rocket shells, anti-tank and anti-personnel mines.
In 2024, a non-technical inspection of 40 thousand square meters is planned. km. on the territory of 59 united territorial communities in liberated areas and direct humanitarian demining activities in 239 areas with a total area of 937 hectares. The work will be carried out outside the 20 kilometer zone from the battle line. Certified mine action operators are involved in enforcement.
It was previously reported that since the beginning of the large-scale military invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, rescuers have neutralized 458,262 units. explosive items and 2892 kg of explosives, including 3130 units. aerial bombs.
