The enemy is installing jet engines on these kamikaze drones. In anticipation, Russian media circulated a close-up image of an Iranian Shahed-238 drone. It is a jet-propelled version of the Shahed-131/136 drone widely used by Russian forces in Ukraine, an image of which Iranian sources originally released in November 2023. This is stated in a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
At the same time, American experts do not yet have confirmation that the invaders are using Shahed-238 against Ukraine. Previously, there was an assumption that the aggressor used these UAVs during the attack on Kyiv on November 25.
ISW also reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces plan to equip all of its fifth-generation Su-57 fighters with new second-stage engines in 2024.
Let us recall that in early December, British intelligence reported that Russia is trying to improve UAV designs based on operating experience. And in November, a downed drone was discovered equipped with a Ukrainian SIM card and a 4G modem.
