The French leader also added that the Moldovan application should be inseparable from a Ukrainian one.
French President Emmanuel Macron considers Moldova’s application for EU membership to be completely legitimate, despite the situation in Transnistria. He said this on Wednesday, June 15, at a joint press conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Reuters reports.
Macron also promised that France, which will hold the EU presidency until the end of the month, will help reach an agreement with EU members at the request of Moldova. But, according to him, it should not be isolated from the application of Ukraine.
In addition, the President of France said the EU would double Moldova’s military budget, allocating 40 million euros to it.
Earlier, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that first of all, Georgia deserves the status of an EU candidate, and only then Ukraine and Moldova.
Recall that Georgia and Moldova applied for EU membership on March 3, followed by Ukraine.
