The former president and former deputy prime minister were accused in the same criminal case. The basis for criminal prosecution is the expiration of the statute of limitations for the crime.
The Court of General Jurisdiction of the city of Yerevan decided to terminate the criminal prosecution in the case of the second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan. This was reported by News-Armenia.
It is noted that the basis for making such a decision is the expiration of the statute of limitations.
“Robert Kocharyan and Armen Gevorkyan are accused in the same criminal case. The former president is accused of accepting a particularly large bribe ($3 million) from businessman Silva Ambartsumyan, and Gevorkyan is accused of money laundering,” the publication said .
Let’s recall that in the summer of 2018, the former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan (1998-2008) was arrested in connection with the dissemination of protests on March 1, 2008.
Kocharyan was charged with breaking the country’s constitutional mandate and accepting bribes on a large scale.
