The head of the Polish government hopes to bring a “serious proposal” from Ukraine to make life easier for Polish carriers.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk intends to visit Kyiv and discuss border unblocking issues. Tusk said this at a press conference on Wednesday, December 27, TVN24 reports.
“We will prepare this visit in such a way that during my meeting with President Zelensky it will be clear what we can achieve,” Tusk said.
He also expressed hope that technically he should bring a “serious proposal” from Kyiv to make life easier for Polish carriers. Because of this, he will ask the carriers “not to block the border because of the war in Ukraine, because the situation is dramatic.”
Tusk noted that the Ukrainian side presented some proposals that would ease the situation for Polish drivers, but, in their opinion, these proposals were not enough.
The head of the Polish government noted that the EU removed transport restrictions for Ukraine, due to the desire to help Ukrainians because of a massive war. At the same time, Tusk emphasized that this decision was supported by the previous Polish government, and he will do the same in their place.
At the same time, Tusk called it unrealistic to return to the system of issuing permits for Ukraine for cargo transportation in the foreseeable future.
“I don’t think that at the European level anything can be radically changed before June, and I speak about it honestly. But operationally, a lot can be solved for Polish drivers with the agreement with the Ukrainians, ” said Tusk.
He also emphasized that the current Polish government is seriously concerned about the “uncontrolled export” of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Polish market.
However, according to him, he sees no reason to destroy Polish-Ukrainian relations because of this. He emphasized that it is possible to maintain good relations between Warsaw and Kiev and at the same time be patient in solving agricultural problems in a way that the Polish farmers will not lose.
Tusk also said that Poland is getting closer to a solution to the issue of unblocking border checkpoints.
We remind you that after a short break, Polish truckers continued blocking the checkpoint in Doroguska. According to the Polish Customs Service, on Saturday the wait at the crossing was 77 hours.
