After President Duda vetoed a bill on state media funding, the government decided to completely eliminate these media.
In Poland, state television, radio and news agencies are being liquidated. Polish Minister of Culture Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz announced this on Wednesday, December 27, on the platform X.
“In connection with the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland to suspend funding for public media, I have decided to liquidate the companies Telewizja Polska SA and Polskie Radio SA and Polish Press Agency SA,” wrote Sienkiewicz.
According to him, in the current situation, such actions will ensure the continuous operation of these companies, carry out the necessary restructuring and avoid the dismissal of workers.
At the same time, Senkevich emphasized that the state of liquidation can be revoked by the owner at any time.
As is known, the new coalition led by Donald Tusk, which came to power in December, has begun to transform the state media, which critics say have become propaganda tools during the eight-year rule of the Law and Justice party ( PiS).
However, the changes have drawn strong opposition from the PiS party, which says the new government has gone beyond normal parliamentary procedure in introducing them.
The decision to liquidate state media came after President Duda, a PiS ally, decided to veto the new government’s spending proposals for state media.
