The Russian Federation has been building up forces on its western borders since Finland joined NATO.
Russia will soon deploy its newest howitzers to the Northern Military District, near Finland and Norway. This was said by the head of Rostec Sergei Chemezov, Reuters wrote on Wednesday, December 27.
According to him, tests on the new Coalition-SV self-propelled artillery system have been completed and their serial production has begun. The first pilot batch will be delivered by the end of this year.
“I think they will appear there (in the Northern Military District – ed.) in the near future, because howitzers of this class are necessary to give an advantage to Western artillery models in terms of the range of firing,” said Chemezov.
Howitzers of the Russian Coalition-SV have a firing range of up to 70 kilometers, are equipped with a modern 2A88 cannon of 152 mm caliber with a rate of fire of more than 10 rounds per minute, as well as a modern automation system for firing processes.
Let’s remember that on December 18, the United States and Finland signed an agreement that will strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense. The EU’s border service Frontex has sent its workers to reinforce Finland’s border with Russia.
