After the start of a massive invasion, part of the Sumy region found itself under Russian occupation, but was completely freed from the enemy. However, even after the de-occupation, the Russians were shelling the region.

In the Sumy region, the population in the 5-kilometer border zone was completely evacuated from 19 settlements. Suspilne reported this on Sunday, December 24.

The settlements where people left are located in the Novoslobodskaya, Belopolskaya, Krasnopolskaya, Shalyginskaya and Esmanskaya communities of the region.

“In total, residents from populated areas within a 5-kilometer zone of four districts – 15 communities of the Sumy region – are subject to evacuation. The total number of people is 12,689 people, including 712 children,” the message said.

It is known that in March 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a mechanism for the forced evacuation of children accompanied by one of the parents or other legal representatives from zones of active conflict.

In the Kharkov region, the list of front-line communities where forced evacuation may be carried out may be expanded.

The border with Belarus is now calm, but for the military this is no reason to relax, because the situation can change at any moment.
