The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation refused to register the initiative group to nominate Duntsova, allegedly due to errors in the documents.
In Russia, opposition journalist Ekaterina Duntsova was denied the right to register a group initiative to run for president of Russia. This was reported by the Russian BBC service on Saturday, December 23.
In explaining this decision, the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation said that 100 errors were allegedly found in the documents for Duntsova’s nomination. Among them, the commission named the quality of the signatures and the wrong passport number of the organizer of the collection of signatures.
According to CEC member Yevgeny Shevchenko, there were errors in the statements of 20% of members of Duntsova’s initiative group, so it was decided to deny her registration.
“Ekaterina Sergeevna, you are a young woman, you still have everything. Any minus can always be a plus,” said the head of the CEC, Ella Pamfilova to Duntsova, announcing the decision.
Duntsova said she intends to appeal today’s decision by the Central Election Commission in court.
“Now we will appeal to the Supreme Court to appeal the decision of the Central Election Commission, because this decision is not based on the law, all grounds for rejection are given in the law on presidential elections in Russia and there is no among the listed shortcomings. is so,” stressed Duntsova.
After the rejection by the CEC, he announced that he intends to run for president through the Yabloko party.
However, almost an hour after Duntsova’s statement, the founder of Yabloko, Grigory Yavlinsky, announced that he would not go to the elections, and that his party had not nominated anyone for them.
Duntsova is called an opposition journalist and an opponent of the war in Ukraine. Its website says that “for the past ten years the country has been moving in the wrong direction: the course has been taken not for development, but for self-destruction,” and “military operations” on the territory of neighboring state leads to inevitable separation and destruction.”
In his interviews, he spoke about the need to end the war in Ukraine, but did not specify how to achieve this.
We remind you that the current leader of Russia Vladimir Putin has decided to participate in the presidential election in March 2024.
As you know, Putin turned 71 on October 7. He has surpassed even Leonid Brezhnev’s 18-year tenure.
Earlier, the media found out who will “compete” with Putin in the election. The main criterion for the selection of candidates used in the Kremlin is age over 50, so that Putin does not look like a “grandfather” compared to them.
