The day before, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, announced the preparation of the first 18 F-16 fighters for delivery to Ukraine. These planes could arrive in Ukraine as early as next week. This is stated in a statement by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Experts note that although the Dutch prime minister did not disclose the timing of the delivery of aircraft to Ukraine, the strategic document of the Estonian Ministry of Defense spoke about the period until the end of 2023.
Let us recall that on December 22, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte wrote on the social network X that the Netherlands had begun preparations for the transfer of the first 18 F-16 aircraft to Ukraine. Before the transfer begins, in particular, the Netherlands needs to obtain permission from the United States to export aircraft, and the conditions of personnel and infrastructure, airfields, etc. must also be satisfied.
