Channel 24 presenter Alexey Pechiy left Ukraine to cover the European Council Summit and said he would not be returning home.
Channel 24 presenter Alexey Pechiy did not return to Ukraine after the end of the European Council summit in Brussels on December 14-15, where he received accreditation. This information was confirmed on Friday, December 22, by Roman Andreiko, CEO of Lux media holding.
He said he was “surprised” by the journalist’s action.
“Alexey Pechiy received accreditation for the EU Summit, which took place from December 14 to 15. However, after completion, the journalist and presenter of Channel 24 did not return to Ukraine. And only a week later he wrote a message where he tried to justify his traitorous position,” said the CEO of a media holding.
Andreiko emphasized that the journalist, when making this decision, “was aware of all the consequences of his escape.”
“To say that I was shocked is to say nothing! … They say, “do not judge, so that you will not be judged.” Time will judge. And people who like to watch and listen to Alexey’s analytics should accept this and do a decision for themselves if they are ready to continue believing in him,” Andreiko stressed.
Alexey Pechiy himself commented on his decision just a week later, calling it “difficult.” He explained that he would stay in Europe due to the fact that Ukraine allegedly lacks “horizontal communication with Western society.” The journalist said that he made this conclusion after the summit, talking to politicians and foreign colleagues.
He posted a corresponding message with explanations on Facebook, but later deleted it. Its screenshots taken by users have been circulated online.
