Japan’s budget for 2024 provides funds for the development of new technologies for attacking targets in enemy territory.
Japan has raised its military budget for 2024 to a record level. In particular, the country plans to spend a record $56 billion on defense, which is 16.5% more than in 2023. Kyodo News wrote this on Friday, December 22.
“The decision was made as part of a five-year plan to modernize the country’s defense posture. There are concerns that China and Russia are increasing their military power and posing a threat to Japan’s security,” writes the publication.
It is indicated that the country will spend part of the money on developing new military technologies and modernizing existing ones.
Among other things, Japan plans to 2024:

upgrade version of the Type-12 surface-to-ship guided missile with an increased range of up to 1000 kilometers

spent more than 80 billion yen ($56 million) on the development and production of hypersonic missiles

about 32.3 billion yen ($224 million) will be spent on developing new high-precision surface-to-ship and surface-to-surface missiles

Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyers are being modernized to carry Tomahawk cruise missiles. About 200 million yen will be allocated for this purpose.

spent 373.1 billion yen to build two additional Aegis destroyers

It was previously reported that Japan will also allocate about $4.5 billion to Ukraine for the country’s post-war reconstruction.
