During a cyber attack, hackers destroyed 40% of Kyivstar’s infrastructure
The first goal of hackers is to destroy the infrastructure as much as possible and wreak havoc. In an hour and a half, when we lost control of the network, they completely erased the customer database. These are not client profiles, but internal profiles that help the system,” said the president of Kyivstar, Alexander Komarov.
He added that the attack was quite unique. About a thousand people were involved in the restoration operation.
Earlier, Komarov reported that hackers attacked Kyivstar’s cyber defenses due to the compromised account of one of its employees.
This attack broke through our defenses. This happened because the account of one of the employees was compromised and the enemy was able to get inside the company’s infrastructure. An investigation is underway in this regard,” Komarov said during the telethon.
He emphasized that the issue is not technology, but that in any organization there can be people “conditionally targeting Russian missiles or giving away their passwords.”
According to the top manager, the company used the most modern technologies for protection and since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, it has repelled about 500 cyberattacks.
