Deploying troops and equipment will reduce response time should the situation worsen, and will also send a deterrent message to those who threaten security.
Denmark and the United States have signed an agreement allowing the deployment of American troops and equipment on the Scandinavian country’s territory. Nordjyske reported this on Thursday, December 21.
“Since World War II, American involvement in Europe is what has kept us safe, and maintaining and expanding is positive,” Rasmussen said.
The head of the Danish Foreign Ministry said that according to the agreement, the Americans have the opportunity to create some capacities in Denmark, which, in the event of an escalation of the situation, will reduce the response time and send a deterrent signal to those which threatens security.
It was noted that the defense agreement provides for the deployment of the United States military at airports in Karup, Skrydstrup and Aalborg. According to the publication, no number has yet been established on how many soldiers will be sent to the Scandinavian country.
It was previously reported that a permanent US Army garrison was opened in Poland. It became the eighth permanent garrison of American forces in Europe and the first on Polish territory.
It has also been reported that Finland is negotiating the long-term presence of US troops in the country.
