“I hope that NATO allies at the summit will agree on a comprehensive package of assistance for Ukraine. Helping Ukraine move from Soviet -era technology to modern NATO technology in the long run and improve interoperability with NATO, ” he says.
This assistance package aims to “transfer all equipment from the (Soviet -style) era to modern equipment in accordance with NATO standards,” the NATO Secretary -General said.
“This move requires me, in a way, to transfer knowledge, expertise, which will allow me to take this pretty serious step for the armed forces – to move from the old system towards “It’s mainly about interoperability with NATO standards, interoperability with NATO allies”, Stoltenberg added.
According to him, NATO is now focused on engaging with Ukraine in providing urgent assistance to win the war with Russia.
“Ukraine is a country that aspires to become a member of NATO. Our focus now is to help them fight off brutal attacks, assist them with practical support, lethal and non-lethal assistance from NATO allies and from NATO, and help Ukraine continue to modernize the armed forces, in what the allies have been doing for many years, including the transition from Soviet -era equipment to modern NATO equipment. This is our focus in our relations with Ukraine, ”Stoltenberg explained.
Also, NATO defense ministers will today announce the allocation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which includes heavy weapons and long-range artillery.
