David Kozak, who ran a Telegram channel in the form of a Russian-language diary, was allegedly inspired to commit the crime by a recent shooting in Bryansk, Russia, by a high school student.
Czech police suspect Russian-speaking philosophy student David Kozak of the mass murder of people in Prague, which took place on Thursday, December 21, Novinky.cz reports.
It was noted that, according to preliminary information, on the same day the police put him on the wanted list on suspicion of a murder committed in the village of Kladensko near the Czech capital. On Friday, December 15, an unknown person shot and killed an old man and a child. The victims were reported to be a thirty-two-year-old man and his two-month-old daughter.
According to the police, there was no accomplice to the attack. The motive for his action is unknown. At the same time, law enforcement officials are checking his messages on social networks. It is likely that Kozak, who ran a Telegram channel in the form of a diary in Russian, was inspired to commit the crime by the recent shooting in Bryansk, Russia, by a 14-year-old high school student. On the channel, the author admitted that he hated people and wanted to shoot himself.
“This year was inspired by a similar horrific event in another country,” said Police Chief Martin Wondraszek.
At the same time, he added that this is unconfirmed information.
“We have information – and it has not yet been verified – from a social network account that the shooting was inspired by a terrorist attack that took place this fall in Russia,” the police chief said.
Kazak received a bachelor’s degree in history and European studies, and then went on to a master’s degree in history. He focuses on the history of Poland.
We remind you that as a result of the shooting in one of the buildings of Charles University, 15 people died and 24 were injured. The shooter was a university student, his body was found near the educational institution. The exact motive for the attack is still unknown, but police do not consider it related to international terrorism. He suggests that the shooter was influenced by similar shooting incidents in other countries around the world. The current attack is the bloodiest event in the entire 30-year history of the modern Czech Republic.
