The suspect, who has autism, said he intends to “get back into cybercrime” soon.
The court sentenced the 18-year-old hacker from Oxford Arion Kurtaj, who leaked materials from the announced game Grand Theft Auto (GTA) on the Internet. The young man was hospitalized for an unspecified period, reports Yahoo! finance.
The suspect, who has autism, is a key member of the international gang Lapsus$. Gang attacks on tech giants, including Uber, Nvidia and Rockstar Games, cost the companies around $10 million.
The judge noted that Kurtaj’s skills and desire to commit cybercrime meant he remained a high risk to the public. So, the man will remain in the hospital until the doctors decide that he is no longer a danger.
A mental health assessment of the suspect showed that he “continually expressed his intention to return to cybercrime as soon as possible.”
The hacker, while on bail for the ill-fated Nvidia and BT/EE and under police protection at the Travelodge hotel, continued his cyber attacks.
Kurtaj managed to destroy Rockstar, the company behind GTA, using an Amazon Firestick, his hotel TV and mobile phone.
A young attacker stole 90 files from the unpublished and highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. He then published the clips and source code on a forum under the name TeaPotUberHacker.
The young man was re-arrested and detained pending trial.
As we already wrote, hackers destroyed the PlayStation Classic console a few weeks after its release.
