The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution to launch a project to introduce identification and registration of pets. This was stated by Denis Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for digital development, digital transformation and digitalization, the department’s press service reports.
It is expected that such an innovation will help combat the growth of stray animals.
The monopoly of state clinics for registering animals is being removed. This project will allow all veterinarians who will work with the Registry to issue state-issued veterinary passports, he noted. — At the same time, animal registration will be free for both veterinarians and pet owners.
Among the advantages for owners who will create this Register, the project initiators name:
- the possibility of restoring documents for the animal and confirming ownership of it;
- facilitating the search for missing animals;
- subsequently displaying electronic veterinary passports in the “Action” application.
Deputy Chairman of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection Olga Shevchenko noted that this register is planned to be integrated with the Europetnet search engine (an international association dealing with the identification of owned animals in Europe).
Imperfect registration of pets separated Ukraine from European standards for the treatment of pets and created obstacles for Ukrainians traveling abroad with their pets, she noted. “However, now the project being implemented by the government stipulates that the created Register will be integrated with the Europetnet search engine.
