The opposition accused Vucic’s party of fraud; opposition leaders went on hunger strike, demanding the election results be cancelled.
In the Serbian capital Belgrade on the evening of Monday, December 18, protests took place demanding the annulment of the results of the parliamentary elections, in which the Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) of President Aleksandar Vucic won, according to the report of Radio Liberty’s Balkan service.
Notably, the rally, which was attended by thousands of people, was held by opposition leaders who claimed that the SPP’s victory was the result of fraud.
Representatives of the pro-European coalition Serbia against violence appealed to the Republican Election Commission with a request to annul the results. Also, the two coalition leaders said they have started a hunger strike until their demands are met.
“Considering that more than 40 thousand people without legal residence were organized and brought to Belgrade to support the SPP list, which radically changed the electoral will of the citizens of Belgrade, we demand the cancellation of the elections in Belgrade,” the opposition coalition said. .
In this regard, the Serbian Progressive Party rejected accusations of irregularities during the election.
According to the results of the preliminary voting, the list of the Serbian Progressive Party received 39.3% of the votes (49 mandates), and the list of Serbia against violence – 34.3% (42 mandates).
After a four-hour protest, the participants began to disperse. Journalists also reported that there were police in the streets around the building, but they did not intervene.
It was previously reported that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of current President Aleksandar Vucic is leading the parliamentary and municipal elections in Serbia.
Let’s remember that the Russian Federation is recruiting Serbs to replace its military forces to wage war against Ukraine.
