Brussels announced measures to detect attempts to evade sanctions when transporting oil from the Russian Federation.
The European Union will step up surveillance and exchange of information on tankers to identify vessels trying to evade sanctions by transporting oil from the Russian Federation. This was reported by the press service of the European Council on Monday, December 18.
It was noted that the strengthened information exchange mechanism will make it possible to better identify ships and companies that use dishonest practices, such as transshipment from ship to ship to hide the origin or destination of cargoes when transporting Russian oil and petroleum products.
The EU is also introducing tougher rules to stop the manipulation of AIS (Automatic Identification System for Ships).
In addition, the European Council decided to introduce notification rules for the sale of tankers in any third country to make their sale and export more transparent, especially in the case of used tankers, which may can be used to circumvent the ban on imports of Russian oil or petroleum products and G7 price restrictions.
We remind you that on December 18, the European Union announced the 12th package of sanctions against Russia. In particular, the European Union has introduced strict restrictions against Russian diamonds.
