The SBU said that a non-functional technical device was found at one of the potential locations of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny.
A wiretap was found in the room where the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny may work. The General Staff said that on December 17, during a routine inspection of the area, elements of equipment for obtaining information were discovered in one of the locations.
Will the SBU fix this?
Listening devices were installed in offices intended for the work of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and employees of the Administration for Supporting His Activities.
The General Staff reported the discovery to the SBU, and criminal proceedings were opened there.
“We emphasize that the equipment was not found directly in the office of Valery Zaluzhny, but in one of the rooms that he may use for work in the future. According to preliminary data, the identified device is not working. Nothing was found which is a method of storing information or a method of remote transmission of audio recordings. This technical device will be submitted for evaluation,” said the SBU.
Zaluzhny reacted
Zaluzhny himself does not consider the discovery of wiretapping devices in his office as pressure and does not think that state secrets may have been revealed in that office.
So, answering the question if he considered the discovery of a listening device in his office as pressure, Zaluzhny replied: “No, like a war. The investigation will prove that it can happen.”
The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said he had to go to the office where the listening device was found at 7 a.m.
“I don’t think (that state secrets can be disclosed in this office). This room was used before, but such a break is quite significant, so it happened only for my meeting,” said Zaluzhny.
Russian agents?
Military expert Alexander Kovalenko believes that the SBU will have no problems identifying those involved in the placement of this wiretap.
“The fact is that until 2022 in Ukraine we have many either hidden or open Kremlin agents, collaborators, separatists, some of them even appeared on television, even with their own TV channels. So, this intelligence network is quite large. And not everyone who should now be detained or caught is caught and detained, unfortunately. Some of the hidden separatists both worked for Moscow and continue to do so, “the expert believes.
“Anything can happen, this is war. And we must understand that any military information is monitored by enemies, and can be monitored by different entities within the state – for different reasons and different motives. Therefore, special security measures are established. I can tell you that the rooms where you can work with state secrets are the rooms where people enter without phones, without folders, bags – without anything. And there all the “noise” is wet – technically it is specially made so that no sound or signal can penetrate there or come out. Therefore, everyone who works with this information has such a place. That means, you should be calm about it,” noted former Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar.
