President Sandu believes that there are two main threats to national security: the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation against Moldova and the rest of the world, as well as deep-rooted corruption.
The Parliament of Moldova on Friday, December 15, voted for a draft resolution approving the National Security Strategy of Moldova, submitted by the country’s President Maia Sandu, NewsMaker reports.
59 representatives voted for the corresponding decision. This approach is the first since 2011.
It is noted that Sandu presented the National Security Strategy at a briefing on October 11. The project includes several areas: investment in defense, peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict, fight against corruption and development of security partnerships with other countries .
Moldova’s national security strategy will be valid for six years and will be the basis for other initiatives in this area.
President Maia Sandu on Saturday welcomed the parliament’s decision, saying it was “a big step towards strengthening the security and stability of our country.”
“The document identifies the main threats and proposes solutions to effectively counter them. Today we have two main threats to national security: the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation against our country and against the whole world, as well as the deep-rooted corruption in Moldova,” the press service quoted Sandu as saying.
Earlier it was reported that Sandu had stripped the head of the Party of Regions of Moldova of his citizenship.
