The Schengen area is a group of European countries that have agreed not to check the passports of people crossing the borders between them. This means that people can travel freely within the Schengen area without any problems.

The Netherlands has given its consent to Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area. The decision ends a long-standing dispute between the two countries. Reuters reported this on Friday, December 15.

Previously, the Netherlands did not want Bulgaria to join the Schengen area because they feared corruption and migration. However, as the agency points out, Bulgaria currently fulfills all the conditions for joining Schengen.

Note that a group of European countries that have agreed not to check the passports of people crossing the borders between them is called the Schengen area. This means that people can freely travel within its borders without any problem.

Currently, the Schengen area includes 27 countries: Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia , Slovenia, Finland. France, Czech Republic, Croatia, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia.

Earlier, the updated Schengen Information System (SIS) was officially launched, which supports border control and law enforcement cooperation in 30 European countries.

Let’s remember that Croatia recently joined the Schengen zone.
