Ukraine still has access to more than 95% of all weapons systems supplied by the West. They were not used in the counteroffensive, the journalists said.
Ukraine is planning a new counter-offensive in 2024. And this, obviously, will be as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny planned for this summer. This was reported yesterday by the German newspaper Welt.
The publication writes that although the current counter-offensive has “reached a dead end” and the West is skeptical of its support, there are signs that Ukraine is preparing a new plan.
“Many people forget that most of the tanks and armored personnel carriers are still there, and that many of the promised weapons are still being supplied,” said German security expert and political consultant Nico Lange.
This applies, for example, to 200 German Leopard 1 tanks, of which only about 30 arrived in Ukraine.
It is also said that Ukraine still has access to more than 95% of all weapons systems supplied by the West, as they have not yet been used in a counter-offensive. This is the result of estimates from the Dutch website Oryx, which analyzes data on the supply and destruction of military equipment.
The publication recalls that Ukrainian units hold a bridgehead near Kherson on the banks of the Dnieper, temporarily occupied by Russia. From here it is only 60 kilometers to Crimea. This was a weak point for the Russian army as Ukraine forced the Black Sea Fleet to withdraw. And many Russian air defense systems were destroyed, as were other military installations of the Russian Federation.
It is said that the Commander-in-Chief Zaluzhny was never in favor of an offensive without air support, and only agreed to it “for political reasons,” but then the “big counter-offensive”, which was supposed to lead in Melitopol and Berdyansk, was canceled altogether.
Journalists also wrote that Zaluzhny, by deciding to attack with small infantry units, saved the lives of his soldiers and most Western weapon systems, and also gained valuable time.
“Ukraine is probably gathering resources for a new counter-offensive next year. A starting point could be a bridge over Kherson. With the necessary fighter jets, combat helicopters and drones, Ukraine can provide of sufficient support for the advance of its troops, especially since in this region “There are practically no Russian fortresses. This is exactly the kind of counter-offensive that Zaluzhny probably had in mind from the start,” the article said.
Previously, President Vladimir Zelensky admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not achieve the desired results during the summer counteroffensive. The reason for this, he said, is the slowness of the Western allies.
The media also reported that the military leaders of the United States and Ukraine are developing a new war strategy for 2024.
