The leaders of the countries of the European Union can deprive Hungary of the right to vote when considering the issue of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the bloc. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna at the United News telethon.
“The decision has been made. But I want to say that even if the situation is more critical than yesterday, the 26 EU member states are ready to deprive Hungary of the right to vote,” the official assured.
According to him, such an official procedure exists, but it has not been used.
He also suggested that it was an argument for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to leave the hall while other leaders voted to open negotiations with Ukraine.
Let’s remember that the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the leaders of the European Union decided to start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on accession to the EU.
As is known, the decision of the EU leaders means that the European Commission, without further delay, begins to prepare the technical aspects of negotiations with Ukraine on membership.
