This happened in the last days of Donald Trump’s term. These documents contained raw US and NATO intelligence data on Russian agents, information about the collection of data on the Kremlin’s interference in the 2016 US presidential election, as well as data on the sources of all this information. CNN reported this, citing more than a dozen sources.
It is noted that the information was top secret with a high level of access. Even members of the US Congress were only allowed to see these documents at CIA headquarters. These notes could not be taken with you; they were kept in a Langley safe.
Sources noted that the top-secret folder was last seen at the White House in the final days of Donald Trump’s presidency. It was the then head of the United States who gave the order to bring a folder to declassify a number of documents related to the investigation into Russian interference in the elections.
The papers were carefully studied under the supervision of then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. Officials with appropriate clearance had access to information. Several copies were made to be shown to Republican congressmen and loyal media outlets. The copies were eventually removed for further approval and then ended up in the National Archives.
CNN writes that the US Department of Justice never published the declassified data, despite Trump’s order, and the folder itself disappeared. US intelligence is very concerned about this because the data could reveal some of the biggest secrets of the US and its NATO allies. Sources note that the disappearance would not have been known at all if intelligence representatives had not contacted the leaders of the Senate committee in 2022.
Let us recall that in October a US court began considering the case of the possible disqualification of Donald Trump from the presidential election. They must determine whether the attack on the Capitol in January 2021 is grounds to ban Trump from participating in the 2024 presidential election.
