The Danube Commission made the corresponding decision at the 100th anniversary meeting chaired by Ukraine.

The member countries of the Danube Commission decided to exclude Russia because of its missile and drone attacks on the Lower Danube. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kulebu online X (Twitter) on Friday, December 15th.

According to him, this decision was made by the Danube Commission at the 100th anniversary meeting chaired by Ukraine. This is also based on the decision of March 17, 2022, when Russians were banned from participating in all meetings and expelled from the commission’s secretariat.

Russia is obliged to leave the organization by February 29, 2024. If it does not, the members of the commission will not recognize their obligations to the Russian Federation under the Belgrade Convention on the Regime of Navigation on the Danube.

The Danube Commission is an international organization established by the Convention on the Regime of Navigation on the Danube. It was signed in Belgrade on August 18, 1948. The members of the commission were Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Croatia.

As you know, Russia regularly attacks the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail on the Danube. The day before, one of the “shahed” launched by the Russians on the night of December 14 across Ukraine violated NATO airspace, falling on the territory of Romania.

Let’s remember that the aggressor then launched 42 drones, and 41 of them were destroyed by the air defense forces.
