The invasion of the Russian Federation is an unpredictable event that makes it possible to negotiate the cancellation of the state debt, MPs believe.
The Verkhovna Rada has registered a draft resolution on an appeal to the president and the government with a request to negotiate the cancellation of external debt.
Among the authors of the initiative are representatives of various factions, as well as non-factional representatives.
“We are making a proposal to immediately communicate with all foreign partners – the lenders of Ukraine in writing and revising the state and guaranteed foreign debt of Ukraine. After all, the full war that Ukraine is now waging. is a typical force majeure – an unpredictable event that makes it possible to negotiate the denial of obligations ended in peacetime, ”the draft read.
It was noted that the losses of the Ukrainian economy from the war, according to preliminary calculations, far exceeded one trillion dollars.
“According to data officially released by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the debt external guarantee of the state and state is UAH 1,662.69 billion, or $ 56.83 billion. From April to the end of this year, our state must pay UAH 102 billion. external debt, “the draft said.
It also noted that in conditions of war, the scope of defense and social security of the tens of millions of Ukrainians affected by the war was in the first place in need of financing, and the service of the public debt required a significant portion of the pondo.
It should be noted that in April, the public debt of Ukraine rose by 0.84% in dollars – up to $ 97.62 billion, and in the hryvnia – up to UAH 2.855 trillion.
Earlier, the IMF predicted a sharp increase in Ukraine’s public debt due to a sharp increase in the budget deficit and falling GDP. This number will remain at a high level over the next five years.
